The Benedictus, or Canticle of Zachary, is found in the Gospel of Luke 1:68–79. It is one of the three Biblical canticles in the first two chapters of this Gospel, the other two being the "Magnificat" and the "Nunc dimittis". The Benedictus was the song of thanksgiving uttered by Zechariah on the occasion of the circumcision of his son, John the Baptist.
This English setting of the Benedictus of Zachary was composed by Philip Moore. It is here sung by the Choir of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, Alabama, with soprano soloist Carrie Black. The organist is Charles Kennedy and the conductor is Frederick Teardo .
