The Miracle of Marcelino is a beloved 1955 Spanish film about a little orphan boy raised by Franciscan friars after being left at their monastery as an infant. Curious, innocent, and longing for a mother, Marcelino discovers a life-size crucifix hidden in the attic and begins bringing bread and wine to the suffering Christ, whom he simply calls his friend. Through the child’s purity and compassion, the film presents a deeply moving image of Eucharistic love, spiritual childhood, and the tender nearness of Jesus to the innocent. Its miracle is not only extraordinary but profoundly simple: a little boy gives Christ what he has, and Christ gives the child the deepest desire of his heart.
