A famous English Catholic priest was once asked:
“When we make the sign of the Cross what are we saying?”
He answered: the first two gestures make the letter
“I.”
The next gestures cross it out.
In other words – we want to be humble – crossed out – unimportant.
"It is Christ who must increase in our life. We must decrease."
